MODULE 4 Research Writing, AI Utilization, Publication & Researcher Development

Module Description

Module 4 brings the research process together by focusing on academic writing, interpretation of findings, responsible use of artificial intelligence, manuscript development, journal selection, publication, and research quality control.

Participants will learn how to present quantitative and qualitative findings appropriately, distinguish between Results and Discussion, develop an effective abstract and conclusion, and use AI tools responsibly within the research workflow. The module then progresses to manuscript preparation, journal selection, submission, peer-review responses, plagiarism/similarity checking, and thesis/dissertation quality control.

The final workshop allows participants to present a Mini Research Proposal or Research Article Plan and receive peer and trainer feedback.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Present quantitative and qualitative research findings in an academically appropriate manner.
  • Develop effective tables and figures for research reporting.
  • Report statistical findings appropriately.
  • Distinguish clearly between the Results and Discussion sections.
  • Compare research findings with previous studies.
  • Explain similarities and differences between findings and existing literature.
  • Identify theoretical and practical implications of research findings.
  • Write an effective research abstract.
  • Develop conclusions, recommendations, limitations, and future research directions.
  • Explain appropriate and inappropriate uses of AI in academic research.
  • Use tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Consensus responsibly within the research workflow.
  • Use AI for appropriate tasks such as brainstorming, research-question refinement, language improvement, and literature synthesis while maintaining researcher responsibility for accuracy.
  • Recognise AI hallucinations and apply verification practices.
  • Understand academic-integrity and disclosure considerations associated with AI use.
  • Structure a research article according to the IMRaD framework.
  • Identify journals appropriate to a research topic and understand journal-selection criteria.
  • Recognise indicators associated with potentially predatory journals.
  • Understand journal scope, indexing, peer review, open access, and publication charges.
  • Prepare a manuscript for journal submission.
  • Develop a professional cover letter.
  • Understand the online submission and revision process.
  • Prepare responses to reviewer comments.
  • Apply plagiarism/similarity, reference, language, and proofreading checks.
  • Identify methodological inconsistencies in theses and dissertations.
  • Check alignment among research objectives, questions, methodology, results, and conclusions.
  • Develop a realistic research publication plan.
